Led by Sir William Lyons, a revolutionary car was born in Coventry, UK in the late 1950s: the Jaguar MKII. The car was advanced, with a unibody and disc brakes. Particular attention had been paid to the car’s silence, vibration damping and a comfortable but sporty suspension. As the Jaguars motto, launched first time with MKII said: “Grace, Space, Pace”.
The end result was a luxurious and sporty large mid-size sedan. A representative car the kind of bank robbers stole as an escape car. And a capable four-door sport saloon that succeeded also as a racing car the kind that German competitors like BMW and Mercedes could only dream of at the time.
The last MKII generation cars were known as the 240 and 340, referring to their engine displacement. More power with 3.4 -litre engines was obtained than before by using the same cylinder head as in the E-Type, resulting in a peak power of 213 horsepower. External differences from the previous MKIIs can be found mainly in the more simplified bumpers and rear section.
We imported this 1969 British Racing Green Jaguar MKII 340 to Finland from Lugano, Switzerland, in January 2026. The car is one of the last Jaguars of the MKII saloon cars, the MKII 340 with the more powerful 3.4-liter engine, manual transmission and overdrive.
The car was restored during the 2020s. The pretty well preserved body was restored and painted in Jaguar’s British Racing Green shade. The interior upholstery was completely renewed with sand beige materials matching to the original, including the floor mats and the seats in their entirety. The headliner and the wooden dashboard cover has also been renewed.
The shock absorbers and many of chassis and steering wear parts have been renewed. The chrome wire wheels are new, as are the tires. The battery has been renewed. During the restoration, the engine was also disassembled and overhauled.
After we brought the car to Finland, it was thoroughly serviced at Grips Garage, a British classic car specialist. The engine oil and filter, brake fluids and coolant were renewed. The transmission oils were checked and the chassis and steering wearing parts were greased. The brakes were adjusted.
The car’s original 3.4-liter direct-injection engine purrs softly. The transmission and overdrive work precisely. The power of the inline six engine is preserved and the car is a joy to drive.
The car is registered and Mot/Tüv inspected in Finland in February 2026. The inspection is valid until 02/2028. Possible to register as a historic vehicle.
A great and well-mannered example ready to be driven and enjoyed.
