Rover’s chief designer Maurice Wilks began designing a capable off-road vehicle in 1947, using military vehicles used by the US Army as a model. The first Land Rover, with an 80-inch wheelbase, was introduced at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948, and the world’s most capable off-road vehicle was produced, with thoughtful updates, until 2016.

In 1958, the 109-inch wheelbase Land Rover Station Wagon was introduced with the Series II. The most significant technical innovation was the more powerful 2.25-liter four-cylinder petrol engine than the previous two-liter, which was partly responsible for the increased wheelbase needed. Rover’s chief designer David Bache had increased both the the track and body width. In 1961, with the Series II A, the headlights moved from the front grille to the fenders and also diesel version of the 2.25 four-cylinder engine came available.

In 1971, the Series III was introduced. In appearance, it largely resembled the II A, but inside the dashboard was padded and the steering wheel was updated to be more modern. The Series III was equipped with both fresh air and heating device and even had a place for a radio in the dashboard. The transmission was now a fully synchronized four-speed, with low gear and selectable four-wheel drive.

This Marine Blue Land Rover Series III 109” Station Wagon is 9 seater was first registered in 27.12.1974. Ownership history is pretty well known and recorded since new. First owner was local electricity company Kolsi Oy in Kokemäki, western Finland that kept the car until 1982. In 1980’s Land Rover had two private owners and the latest one of them kept the car until 1992. Next owner owned Land Rover until 2020’s.

We acquired the car in the fall of 2024 and the Land Rover has been comprehensively serviced and renovated during the years 2024-2026:

The chassis has been refurbished and protected from rust. The engine oils with filters, transmission and transfer case oils, rear oils, coolants and brake fluids, and the fuel filter have been renewed. The brakes have been renewed, including most of the brake pipes. The tie rod ends of steering have been renewed.

Body has been repainted some years ago with the original Marine Blue shade, but the paint is not concours class and there are some dents, scratches and other marks of use and aging.

Most of the interior is also new: The front seats and the loading area seats have been renewed, the middle row seat has been reupholstered. The headliner and floormats have been renewed. Dashboard, steering wheel, switches and gauges are mostly original and there are lot of patina and wear of use.

The receipts about the latest services and renovations are on file.

The Land Rover was Mot/Tüv inspected in March 2026, inspection is valid until 03/2028.
