The XJ40 series Jaguar was designed carefully. Design began in the 1970s and the car was finally launched in 1986. The engine of Jaguar saloon was a AJ6 inline-six and 12-cylinder V-model engines soon became an option. The XJ40 was a 22-year success story in the history of the royal cat saloon.

In 1992, Jaguar decided to discontinue the DS 420 limousine, a luxury car that had been hand-built since 1968 primarily for royalty, embassies and government officials. Jaguar's department specializing in hand-built special models was renamed Insignia. The department specialized in customizing the XJ40/XJ81 and XJS models. The buyer could choose any combination of upholstery, wood trim, wheels and body colors for the Insignia. Two-tone leather upholsteries were also available. Insignia models often ended up as showroom cars for importers and dealers, as they were particularly well-equipped.

A total of 319 Insignia XJ40 special models were produced, of which this 5.10.1992 built car is one of the very first ones ever produced. Morocco Red – XJ40 Insignia was first registered in Germany in August 1993. The Jaguar was exported to Sweden in 1998 and imported to Finland in 2003. The current owner has owned the car for 11 years.

The car has been serviced by Karaasi, a Finnish specialist in Jaguars. Swedish Jaguar owner’s manuals and service book are preserved in a Jaguar vinyl folder. In recent years, in addition to regular maintenance, the steering rack and fuel tank have been replaced and the heater unit has been overhauled. During the current ownership, the body sills and front floors have also been restored and the sides of the car repainted.

The Jaguar has been kept with dignity and is in good original condition. The Morocco Red burgundy paintwork is in impressive and mostly original condition, although there are also signs of wear such as small dents, fading and scratches. The two-tone leather interior is intact, the paint on the front seat upholstery is worn and the varnish on the hardwood trim has cracks.

The Jaguar’s equipment, with the exception of the cruise control, works flawlessly. The refined power of the direct-injection engine is preserved and the four-speed ZF automatic transmission shifts as it should.

The Jaguar also has a winter tire/wheel set, mounted on steel wheels with the original Insignia -Morocco Red -color-coded chrome hubcaps.

A detailed equipment list from Jaguar is also available.

The Jaguar is located in Vantaa, Finland – 25 minutes from Helsinki–Vantaa Airport. Views by appointment.
