In 1932, the German car manufacturers Audi, Horch and Wandererer and DKW merged. Auto-Union was born, from which DKW intended to manufacture small passenger cars and motorcycles. The abbreviation has several meanings, such as “Dampf-Kraft-Wagen”, steam-powered vehicle, or “Das Kleine Wunderer,” the little wonder.
After the world wars, DKW settled in West Germany and introduced a completely new vehicle, the Junior, in 1959. The popular small family car was gradually improved and the model culminated in the F12 introduced in 1963, which had a larger 899 cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine than the earlier models. F12 had also more spacious interior. The DKW story ended a few years later through the hands of Daimler Benz and Volkswagenwerk. DKW’s successor is still known as Audi.
In Finland, Veho Oy Ab was the official importer of DKW, Auto Union and Audi passenger cars from 1961 to 1974.
This 1963 DKW F12 in question was imported new by Veho and sold by Auto-Sun DKW dealer in Lappeenranta. The car was first registered on 21 October 1963. The first owner was watchmaker L. Venesoja from Lappeenranta. In 1989, the car was sold to M.Vormisto in Joutseno and registered as a historic vehicle. Later, the car has been owned by car enthusiasts in Porvoo (3. owner 06.05.2001–2019 and 4. owner 14.2.2019–31.5.2025).
The car has been preserved in a neat, original, unrestored condition. The upholstery and paintwork of the car’s interior are still original. The engine starts and works great, as does the gearbox. The 900cc 2-stroke engine feels cheerful in a small car.
All of the car’s original documents and keys are still preserved. The original maintenance booklet and owner’s guide addressed to the first owner, the user manual with a Finnish insert, and Veho’s DKW spare parts brochure. The documents have been preserved in the original DKW vinyl folder.
The historic vehicle’s inspection was completed in 05/2025 and is valid until 05/2029.
The car is located in Vantaa – 25 minutes from Helsinki–Vantaa Airport. Views by appointment. Trade to other vehicles is also possible.
