The Jaguar XJ-S had big boots to fill when it was introduced as the successor to the E-Type in September 1975. The intention was to continue the line of the E-Type SIII and create a comfortable and luxurious Grand Tourer in a coupé body using the XJ base plate. The body designer was Malcolm Sayer, until he passed away in the middle of the project. Jaguar’s own design department continued Sayer’s work under the leadership of Doug Thorpe, who was inclined to retain the characteristic D-pillar support arches of the XJS coupé body for aerodynamic reasons.

The XJ-S was introduced with a 5.3-liter V12 fuel-injected engine, available with either a four-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The majority of cars were sold with automatic transmissions, and manual transmissions remained a rarity. The XJ-S combined the luxury and comfort of the flagship XJ with the sporty capabilities of the V12. The end result was a refined GT car. The XJ-S HE was introduced in 1981, when power increased to 295 horsepower and the suspension and equipment level and trims were updated. In 1983 AJ6 inline six engine came also available, but the more powerful and refined V12 also held its own.

This Racing Green Jaguar XJ-S was sold to the Netherlands on July 15, 1983. The car, which was preserved in good original condition, was purchased by Finnish J.Hottola in 2020.

Already in the same autumn after bringing the XJ-S to Finland, Hottola ordered a Jaguar manual conversion kit for it, which was installed in Karaasi, a British car specialist. The gearbox is a Getrag 265, which was also originally available for the XJ-S. The package included a reconditioned limited slip differential and the new clutch.

At the same time, the air conditioning compressor was renewed and the air conditioning was changed to operate with modern materials. During the current owner’s time, the engine control unit has also been renewed with correct V12 manual one.

The car also comes with some overhaul receipts from its time in Holland. For example, during 2016-2019, the car’s brakes and steering gear were renewed and the radiator was renovated.

The car has been preserved in its original condition and has been enjoyed regularly – especially the interior has some patina.

Updated with the period correct Arden wheels and Momo leather steering wheel with Jaguar centre boss. Both the original alloys and steering wheel are preserved.

The engine and transmission work great and the manual gearbox makes the Jaguar a particularly great GT car to enjoy on winding roads. The V12 runs smoothly, revs happily and the transmission is precise.

The car is located in Luhtaanmäki, Vantaa. Presentations by appointment.
