Led by Sir William Lyons, a revolutionary car was born in Coventry, UK in the late 1950s: the Jaguar MKII. The car was advanced, with a unibody and disc brakes. Particular attention had been paid to the car’s silence, vibration damping and a comfortable but sporty suspension. As the Jaguars motto, launched first time with MKII said: “Grace, Space, Pace”.

The end result was a luxurious and sporty large mid-size sedan. A representative car the kind of bank robbers stole as an escape car. And a capable four-door sport saloon that succeeded also as a racing car the kind that German competitors like BMW and Mercedes could only dream of at the time.

This 1961’ British Racing Green MKII was brought to Finland from the United States in the early 1990s. The car was brought to Finland by Nostalgia Classics, which once specialized in classics in Ostrobothnia, Finland. From the mid-1990s to 2010, the car was owned by the family run car dealership Auto-Jalonen. The next owner, J. Holopainen, enjoyed and took care of the Jaguar until 2018, when the car was transferred to Grips Garage ownership and for sale. Grips Garage’s Åvall sold the car to his godfather K. Toikkanen, who still owns the car.

The car has been restored and serviced in repair shops specializing in Jaguars over the years, and it is in good condition both in terms of bodywork and technology. During the years 2015–2016, the both intake and exhaust valves of the car’s engine have been renewed. Carburetors have been serviced and adjusted in connection with thorough maintenance in 2020, and the fuel pump has been renewed in the fall of 2021.

The car body looks good also underneath and the British Racing Green paintwork has aged beautifully. The aristocratic style is completed by wire wheels and new white-sided tires.

The light leather upholstery in the interior is in good condition, and the mats and roof upholstery have recently been renewed.

The car’s original 3.4 liter straight engine purrs softly. The automatic transmission works conscientiously and the car is festive to drive.

The car is registered as a museum vehicle and the next inspection is in July 2024. This Jag is a really nice specimen ready to be enjoyed.
