In March 1961, Jaguar presented a sports car at the Geneva Motor Show, which changed the automotive world forever. The new E-Type (XK-E in the US) was based on the Jaguar D-Type racing car that had won Le Mans three years consecutively from 1955 to 1957. The advanced sports car grand tourer was built on a monocoque body and an engine subframe, thanks to which it only weighed a little over 1300 kilograms. The modern sports car was equipped with disc brakes and independent front and rear suspension. Designed for street use, the Jaguar E-type was the successor to the Jaguar XK 150, whose racing car version, the C-Type, was also succeed at Le Mans.
The car became an immediate success and the annual production was filled with order books in no time. Enzo Ferrari titled the E-Type the most beautiful car in the world and the car was produced for three model series until 1974.
This car in question is a 1 series Fixed-head coupé. The car was manufactured 04.11. 1965. In 19.11.1965 E-type was delivered to the first owner, from the official Jaguar dealer of New York. First owner was Mr. Earl Tunison from Pierre, South Dakota, USA.
E-type was imported and registered to Finland in June 1989. The car had been used regularly summertimes in Helsinki by previous owner I.Hänninen when the current owners J. & A. Riitakorpi bought it in January 2014. The plan was to restore the car for the couple’s upcoming wedding a wedding car, and this was done. The starting point was an original E-Type in good condition and in running order.
A comprehensive restoration was carried out at Grips Garage in 2014-2016, including the refurbishment of the well preserved body, full respray to Opalescent Maroon Red metallic paint, new interior and a complete rebuilt of the matching numbers engine with new parts. There are receipts and photo documentation of the restoration.
The car has been driven annually in the summer time and it has been regularly maintained at Grips Garage. In the fall of 2025, the Jaguar’s rear axle was dismantled and thoroughly restored. The brakes and carburetors were overhauled and adjusted, and the car underwent a major maintenance including greasing service of steering and powertrain parts and replacing of engine- and transmission oils and coolants.
The E-Type is registered as a historic vehicle and Mot/Tüv inspected in September 2025 that is valid until 09/2029.
