The Volkswagen Typ 1, or “Beetle”, originated at the opening of the 1934 Berlin Motor Show. Adolf Hitler wanted to offer the Germans an affordable car model that ordinary citizens could afford. The goal was to increase number of cars on German roads. The criteria was that the car had to fit a family of five, and that the car could handle 30-degree hills and highways at a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour. The car had to also withstand winter conditions and the consumption had to be no more than eight liters per hundred kilometers. A family car that enables all this should cost no more than a thousand reichsmarkts.

The task was taken on by the Austrian Ferdinand Porsche, who had experience in the design of NSU and Zündapp, among others. For the first ever Volkswagen, Porsche stole influences and technical innovations especially from the Czechoslovak Tatra, whose production stopped after the German occupation of the Czechoslovakian Sudetenland in 1938. The same year, the production of the Volkswagen Typ 1 began.

The Beetle became a success. In addition to its design, its characteristic features include a base plate with a separate body, a four-cylinder and four-stroke, air-cooled boxer engine. The suspension was implemented with torsion bars.

The rear-mounted engine and large 15-inch wheels for the era made the Beetle as a good car to drive also in the snow. Introduced under the name Kansanauto, the family car also became popular in Finland, where Beetles were imported from 1950. Also in Finland, 48 Beetles were assembled in Heinola at the Wihuri factory.

An open version of the Beetle was also designed in Wolfsburg. Volkswagen’s first official open models were seen in 1949. The body of the two-seater open model was made by the Josef Hebmüller and Son body shop. The four-seater model immediately became more popular and its body was manufactured by Karmann until 1980.

This 1302 LS Karmann cabriolet was sold in the spring of 1972 to M. Bondesson in Sweden. The first owner kept the car for 36 years and carefully marked the maintenance procedures in a checkbook in addition to the service book. In 2008, the car was bought in Finland by L. Selenius. The current owner, A. Hienonen, has had the car for ten years since 2014.

The car was kept in good original condition, but in beginning of the current ownership, it was disassembled and thoroughly restored in 2014-2015.

The body of the car has been restored and painted in the original Kazan Red shade. The only item that required welding was the spare wheel housing and the door frames.

The interior has the original light vinyl upholstery that has been preserved in excellent condition. The door trims have been renewed. The soft top of the car and its cover have been renewed.

The Beetle works great and is easy and effortless to drive. During the restoration of the car, the factory replacement engine has been disassembled, the piston rings have been renewed and the engine has been assembled with new seals. The clutch was renewed and the car was fitted with electric ignition. After the overhaul, the engine has been driven now for about 25,000 kilometers.

The car is registered as a historic vehicle, Mot/Tüv inspection is valid until April 2025.

In the 1950s, the popularity of sports cars grew also in the United States.  Sports cars were imported from Europe and as moving vehicles they were especially brought by soldiers returning to the United States from abroad. European sports cars starred both in movies and in the real life of actors.

American car manufacturers also wanted to enter the booming sports car market, and General Motors was one of the first to do so. GM introduced the Chevrolet Corvette at the 1953 Motorama show and Corvette became the show’s number one favorite. Ford didn’t just watch from the side, the decision to take the already roughly planned sports car into production was made quickly. The sales figures of the first Corvettes remained low – only 314 cars were made in 1953, but the symbolic meaning for Chevrolet was greater.

A year and a half after the introduction of the Corvette, Ford introduced its first sports car, the Thunderbird, in the fall of 1954 – clay models of the European-style sports car had already been seen earlier that year.

Thunderbird was luxurious and comfortable, efficient and sleek in the American way. It was designed for spectacular and pleasant cruising and touring, not for racetracks like European sports cars often were. The Ford, on the other hand, had luxuries such as power steering and powered brakes, as well as a heater and radio.

At first, Thunderbird bodies were manufactured in Philadelphia at the Budd Company factory, which had also been found to work for other small-production Fords. Later, Thunderbird also got its own production line at Ford factories. Ford’s X-frame was used as the chassis and was modified to fit a sports car, with a wheelbase of 102 inches. Thunderbird had coil springs in the front, a rigid axle with a leaf springs in the back. The engine was Mercury’s 4.8-liter Y-Block V8, the displacement of which increased in subsequent models. A scoop was shaped into the hood for the carburetor air cleaner. The first generation Thunderbird was produced for three years and became both a sales success and an undisputed classic of American automotive design.

This particular ‘1956 Thunderbird was sold as new in California, where the current owner, N.Rubanin, bought the car to Finland in 2004. Belonging to the year model, the car has a 225 horsepower 5.1 liter Mercury V8, paired with a three-speed Fordomatic automatic.

The car was acquired from the United States in a restored condition. The car was freshly repainted and technically in excellent condition. However, the current owner wanted his car to be as perfect as possible and ended up restoring the car thoroughly. The rust free California body has been totally restored and repainted in the original Fiesta Red color at Benefit Auto Klassika.

All the upholsteries of seats, doors and floors were renewed, the door, window and lock mechanisms were renovated. Many of the metal parts were cleaned and passivated and seals and interior chrome parts were renewed. The original hard top with a port hole side window was also restored and painted in the original shade of white. The white vinyl roof was also renewed.

The car’s electrics and engine hoses and pipes have been renewed. Thunderbid has been serviced and restored regularly by workshops specializing in American classics. The maintenances and repairs are documented and the original spare parts and repair manuals are included in the sale.

The original details of the 1956 model, such as the Continental Kit spare wheel rack, the air deflectors at the ends of the windshield and the exhaust outlets located at the ends of the bumper, are preserved.

The car’s engine works excellently, runs smoothly and feels powerful and healthy. The transmission shifts properly. Thunderbird is very comfortable and pleasant to drive.

Like many other vehicle manufacturers, Sideswallow Sportscars (later Jaguar) was harnessed during World War II to produce vehicles for the needs of the war industry. During the wars, Jaguar also had time to dream of making sports cars. Sideswallow Sportscars had already successfully manufactured a few hundreds of the SS100 sports car model before the Second World War.

After the war, Sideswallow Sportscars became Jaguar (as the abbreviation of the previous name was no longer appropriate) which introduced its first sports car, the XK 120, named after its 120 mp/h top speed. The engine was, among other things, inspired by the cast iron engine of the Alfa Romeo 6 C 2500, inline six with two overhead camshafts and an aluminum cylinder head. Presented at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1948, the fastest mass-produced car of its time was beautiful and the test batch of 200 cars sold out immediately.

With the XK 120, Jaguar invested more and more in sports cars, and already in 1950, Jaguar also aimed at racetracks – Le Mans, of course. In 1951, Jaguar was expected to enter with an improved XK 120, but Jaguar surprised everyone by building a thoroughbred racing car. Jaguar hired engineers specializing in aerodynamics, and Malcolm Sayer was responsible for the racer’s design. The air resistance of the car had to be small, but the similarity of the design to the XK 120 had to be maintained. The car got an aluminum body built on a triangular tube frame. The engine, chassis and brakes were built and tuned to be more suitable for racing. The C-Type was completed and won Le Mans twice, in 1951 and 1953. The car is often considered as the first modern racing car.

Completed in 2018, this C-Type is an incredibly accurate replica of the original. The car was manufactured by Suffolk Sportscars, a family company specializing in Jaguar replicas ­– and whose founder, Roger Williams, has experience with Jaguars dating back to the 1960s.

The body mounted on the tubular frame of the C-Type is made of GRP and aluminum and the total weight is only 950 kilograms. The car’s engine is Jaguar’s 4.2 liter XK straight six with three Weber carburetors. The color of the car is the legendary British Racing Green, with green leather seats and black wire wheels. The racing car’s demand exhaust system emphasizes beautiful exhaust notes.

The car is registered in Great Britain, from where the British owner brought it to Finland in 2020. The car has been serviced by Karaasi, a specialist in British cars, twice in Finland, although the car has only been driven on regular test drives to keep it in working condition. The last service was done in the spring of 2023. The C-Type has only been driven 2270 miles and is in like-new condition except for a few small cosmetic marks.

The car is really wonderful to drive – accurate and easy to steer and handle, the chassis with gas shock absorbers feels like a real sports car and the engine runs really smoothly, producing a violent twist at revs. The car is really fast.

This car was sold as new in Germany and brought to Finland in 2012. The British Racing Green exterior color, black leather with dark woods interior and sunroof have been chosen for this example of Jaguar’s sportiest top model in 1996.

In Finland, the XJR has had one private owner from 2012-2023. The car has not been driven in Finland in winter. The Jag has been taken exemplary care of and has been serviced and overhauled in services specialized in Jaguars. Original service book with great service history and the instruction manuals are preserved.

The car has just been serviced (197,000 km): The engine oil and filter have been renewed. Alternator, air mass meter and lambda sensors have been renewed with original parts. The tires have been renewed 04/2024.

The body has been thoroughly restored and painted in Karaasi 2017 and is still in excellent condition.

The supercharged AJ16 is reliable and economical in relation to its power reserve. The X300 -series Jaguars are considered the highest quality in Jaguar’s history.

The XJR 6 was the brand’s first supercharged model, a classic that determined the direction of aristocratic supersaloons. A really great car that is pleasure to drive even long distances.

The Jaguar XJ-S had big boots to fill when it was introduced as the successor to the E-type in September 1975. The plan was to continue the idea of the E-Type SIII and create a comfortable and luxurious Grand Tourer in a coupé body using the XJ’s baseplate. The body designer was Malcolm Sayer, until he passed away in the middle of the project. Jaguar’s own design department continued Sayer’s work under Doug Thorpe, who tended to retain the characteristic d-pillar support arches of the XJ-S coupé body in terms of aerodynamics.

The XJ-S was introduced with a 5.3-liter V12 injection engine, available with either a four-speed automatic or manual transmission. The energy crisis of the 1970s was not very favorable for the V12-engined GT car in terms of sales figures and, for example, the placement of the injection system caused problems in warm conditions. In the second generation, introduced in 1981, Jaguar continued to develop the V12 engine and in 1983 introduced the 3.6-liter AJ6 inline six engine in connection with the XJ-S.

At the same time, in 1983, the first open version, the XJ-SC, was also introduced. The production of the open body was unparalleled: from Jaguar’s Brown’s Lane, the XJ-S coupé bodies were taken to the Park Sheet Metal Company, where the rear support arches were removed from the body and the open body was stiffened. The convertible returned to Brown’s Lane for body painting and interior installation. Next, the body was taken to the Aston Martin Tickword Bodyworks factory in Bedworth, where an electric fabric roof and headliner were fitted to the body. Finally, the car returned to Brown’s Lane again for the finishing assembly and final testing of the car. Later, after Jaguar became independent, i.e. after 1984, open models were produced in cooperation with Hess & Eisenhardt and Karmann body shops, among others.

By 1989, Jaguar was totally owned by Ford and two years later the next, third generation of the XJS was introduced. At the same time, the name changed from XJ-S to XJS. For the first time, the convertible model was completely open-body, without b-pillars and window frames above the body. The front and rear experienced a facelift, but the biggest changes were under the hood: a new 4-liter engine and ZF’s new 4HP 24E automatic transmission became available.

In 1992, the AJ6 engine became available also for a convertible version and it sold better than the V12 engine in the United States as well.

This 1996 Jaguar XJS Celebration Convertible represents the swan song and technical peak of the XJS’s 21 years of production: the four-liter AJ6 is excellent in terms of reliability.

This example was brought from the USA to Finland in 2012, and it has had two owners in Finland. The car has been sold as new in Lake Elsinore, California to a gentleman named Richard D Manns. The car has been driven 83,000 miles and the car’s original documents, including manuals and maintenance documents, are kept in the owner’s Jaguar folder. The last maintenance was done in September 2023, when the engine oils and filter were changed. The oil and fluid levels have been checked in the spring of 2024.

This Celebration model has the exterior color of Sapphire Blue metallic blue and the interior is Connolly’s Oatmeal beige leather, with the Jaguar emblem of the Celebration model. The fabric roof is dark blue with a heated rear window. The equipment includes, for example, a wood/leather steering wheel, original chrome wheels, air conditioning and cruise control. The radio is still Jaguar’s original one. The car is believed to be in its first original paint, except for the hood, which was painted due to stone impacts. The chassis is rust-protected when the car was imported to Finland. The car has been replaced with XJS round headlights, the original oval-shaped ones are also preserved.

The Paris-Dakar rally is known as one of the most demanding endurance rallies. History was made in the rally over 11,000 kilometers long in 1984, when it was won for the first time by a four-wheel-drive factory racer – built for off-road conditions from a sports car. The winning car was the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 4×4 Paris-Dakar (953), driven by René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne.

In 2023, Porsche decided to honor its first Paris-Dakar rally victory 39 years ago and produced a limited Dakar special edition of 2,500 cars with a familiar recipe: All-wheel drive, rear axle steering, a chassis and suspension developed for challenging conditions and the excellent driving characteristics of the 911.

The Dakar is sitting 50 mm higher than the 911 Carrera and it can be raised up to extra 30 millimeters. With + 80 mm ground clearance spec You can rally it even the 170 km/h. The 3 litre flat-six engine with two turbochargers produces a peak power of 480 horsepower and is paired with an 8-speed PDK automatic. The engine mountings are based on the GT3 model. Kerb weight is still only 1605 kilos.

This 911 Dakar in question has been sold as new from the official Porsche dealer in Finland to its current private owner and was first registered on May 31, 2023.

The always stylish black body is finished with black 19-/20″ Dakar rims and AT tires. The headlights are Porsche’s original Led Matrix lights.

The comprehensive equipment of this specimen also includes the Rally Sport Package, which contains black powder coated roll bars and ultra-light carbon fiber bucket seats paired with Racing Yellow belts. Steering wheel is heated and with Race Tex upholstery. The interior is black full leather with matte carbon fiber trims. Laminated glasses are soundproof. The car has Burmester-high end surround sound system.

Introduced in 1970 as a three-door, the Range Rover did not get rear doors until ten years later, when a four-door model came on the market in June 1981. As many of competitors eliminated three-door SUVs from their selections, Land Rover decided to continue manufacturing the three-door Range Rover for the European market. Most of the three-door Range Rovers of the 1990s were sold to Southern Europe and were often equipped with VM’s and later Land Rover’s own diesel engines for tax reasons.

In 1989, Land Rover introduced a 3.9 liter version of Rover’s V8 to the Range Rover. The transmission was either a ZF four-speed automatic or an LT77 five-speed manual with oil pump and cooler. With a new injection engine and a better insulated body, the three-door Range Rover was modernized to the comfort level of the four-door model. At the turn of the decade, the Range Rover also underwent numerous other reforms and, among other things, velor became available as an interior material.

This “Green over tan” 1990 3.9 Efi V8 with 5-speed manual, has been sold as new by Land Rover’s official Spanish dealer. The car was in Spain until 2022, when Finnish car enthusiast R.Collin bought a Range Rover to Finland.

We bought the car in May 2023. During the years 2023-2024, the car has been serviced, renovated and built in back date style, respecting the originality:

The car has been thoroughly serviced: The engine oils and filters, as well as the oils of the gearbox, transfer case and differentials have all been renewed. Greases of wheel hubs have been renewed. The engine has new spark plugs and the fuel injection has been adjusted. The cooling system has been washed and the cooling fluids renewed. The brake and clutch fluids have been renewed.

The heating device and the fan ducts as a whole have been disassembled, cleaned and renovated. The air conditioning has been serviced and filled.

The body and chassis have been preserved in Spain in very good condition. The car has recently been repainted in the original Eastnor Green shade. The bumpers, light surroundings and grille have been “back dated” and changed to refursbished original parts of the 1970s Range Rover.

The interior has been renewed in the colors of Range Rover’s original Palomino beige and tan brown shade:

The front seats are authentic Recaros from the 1990s reupholstered in tan brown. The back seat is a Range Rover original, also reupholstered with tan. The cabin is finished with Momo’s wooden steering wheel and wooden gear stick knob.

In the interior, the door trims have been renewed in the original Palomino shade, and the center console and dashboard have been refurbished in the original dark grey tones. The roof upholstery has been renewed recently. The back of the back seat has been refurbished and painted. The original Range Rover front seats, steering wheel and gear stick knob are preserved and included if wanted.

The car has been fitted with modern audio equipment, the installations of which have been finished with period correct speaker trims. The audio equipment includes a separate speaker set, coaxial speakers and a subwoofer hidden under the front seat.

The tires are new Toyo AT tires in “Camel Trophy” size, 215 / 85 / 16.

The car’s engine and gearbox are healthy and work without flaws, the Rover’s V8 runs smooth and drives perfect. The Range Rover  was Mot/Tüv inspected in August 2023 and is ready even for a daily driver.

In the 1930s, the Swedes unsuccessfully tried to acquire fighters from England, France and the United States. The country, which remained neutral, decided to establish an airplane factory for the needs of defense forces, and in the footsteps of the first company, Svenska Aero AB, Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, or SAAB, was also born. As a result of the First World War, the Germans had been forced to move their aircraft factories to other countries, such as Sweden, and German engineering skills were also used at Saab.

The first passenger car, the Saab 92, began to be produced in 1949. The philosophy of aircraft design was utilized and thanks to the streamlined design, the car had a drag coefficient of 0.30, the same as, for example, the Ferrari F40 sports car a few decades later.

Saab was popular in the Nordic countries, the large wheel size and front-wheel drive made it an efficient forwarder even in challenging and snowy conditions. Rally success in the 60s and 70s was achieved by Stig Blomqvist and Erik Carlsson in Sweden and Simo Lampinen in Finland with a Saab 96.

The Saab 900 was introduced in May 1978 and became available for the 1979 market. The chassis of the car was based on the structure of the predecessor 99, but it had been extended to achieve better safety – and to accommodate larger and turbocharged engines in the engine compartment. Initially, the 900 was available in 3- and 5-door liftback body models, in 1981 the model range was completed with a 4-door sedan and in 1985 with a 2-door sedan. In 1987, the 900 received a facelift, where the front mask and lights were changed. The “vertical nose” became a “slanted nose”, while the body parts remained the same.

In 1984, Saab introduced the 900, a sporty, 3-door flagship model that competed for the same buyers with powerful rear-wheel drive special models from, for example, BMW and Mercedes. Aero’s two-liter and 16-valve turbocharged engine produced a peak power of 175 horsepower and a torque of 273 Nm. There was a cooler for the turbocharger and the pressure was optimized using Saab’s APC system.

Other Aero features included larger bumpers and paneling of the lower part of the sides with air resistance-reducing sills, 3-spoke Aero wheels, leather upholstery and a sunroof.

This 1988 Saab 900 T16 Aero was brought to Finland by car enthusiast R.Collin from Sweden in 2018. The car was in relatively good and original condition when it came to us in the fall of 2023.

During autumn 2023 and spring 2024, Saab has been renovated and serviced after five years of standing mostly unused: the drive shaft joints have been renewed,the engine’s spark plugs and engine oils and filters have been renewed.

The interior has new roof upholstery and the original dark gray leather seats have been restored.

The body of the car is in good condition and the original Odoardo Gray paintwork is in impressive condition. The left front fender and the driver’s door, which were damaged in a parking accident, were refurbished and painted. The bonnet has also been painted due to stone chips.

The car is fast and it works great. The exhaust manifold and exhaust itself updated to more breathable ones. Turbo and Intercooler have been updated and there really is power enough. The transmission is precise and intact.

A rare, original Aero T16 ready to enjoy. Saab is located in Luhtaanmäki, Vantaa, demonstrations by agreement.

The British car industry started planning a successor to the Mini success story already in the early 1970s. Modern and boxy designed small cars such as the Fiat 127 and Renault 2, had already encouraged also the Germans to produce small cars such as the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo.

The Austin Metro was introduced in 1980 and was produced also both as MG and Rover until 1998, with minor updates. The car’s recipe borrowed a lot from its predecessor Mini: A-series BMC engine and four-speed gearbox. Like a Mini, there was plenty of space inside with minor exterior dimensions, and the driver’s driving position was snug and upright, with the steering wheel in an almost horizontal position. The Metro was quieter than the Mini and the driving characteristics were good.

The Metro was particularly successful in its home country, where it was the best-selling small passenger car for several years. Princess Diana was also seen behind the wheel of a modern small car. Elsewhere, sales were modest, and over time, reliability and rust problems also became the fate of Metros sold in Great Britain.

The Metro is perhaps best remembered for the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally, where the naturally aspirated 6R4 Metro designed for Group B, driven by Tony Pond, finished third behind the superior Lancia Delta S4s.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the top of the models designed for civilian use was the Metro GTi, which was sold in Europe under the model name Rover 114 GTi. The car had experienced a real leap from its original stock car. The GTi model was equipped with Rover’s K-series four-cylinder petrol engine: 95 horsepower, 16 valves, two overhead camshafts. Equipped with a sporty chassis, precise steering and sports seats, the model challenged the Peugeot 205 GTi, Ford Fiesta Xr2 MKIII and VW Polo GTi, among others.

As expected, Rover’s expensive and especially old-fashioned GTi model remained a rarity in terms of sales compared to its more modern racing siblings. However, the small car’s driving characteristics were appreciated, and the car even had its own competition series in Britain, the Metro GTi Cup.

This 1991 Rover 114 GTi has been sold new in Madrid, Spain to a lady named Laura Gomez on June 7, 1991. The car was brought to Finland by British car enthusiast J. Ellenberg in 2019. The car has remained in its exceptionally good and original condition and has only been driven about 39 000 kilometers. All Rover’s original manuals and the original service book with stamps are kept.

The car has also been serviced in Finland and it has had new front sub frame under the engine because original was dented, adjusted wheel angles and new clutch cable and semislick tires. In December 2023, the car’s clutch master cylinder was renewed and the oils and filters were changed.

The Rover runs great and is a really fun little hot hatchback to drive. Mot/Tüv inspected in January 2024, valid until 01/2025.
