The Jeep Wagoneer is often considered as the first SUV. Kaiser Jeep, which was formed from Willys and Kaiser, introduced the advanced Wagoneer in the spring of 1962. The engine was a straigth six with overhead camshaft. Car was equipped with independent front suspension and there was both rear- and four-wheel drive versions available. Body was available with both two and four door versions.

The V8 engine option was first time offered in 1965. When Jeep was acquired by AMC in the early 1970s, the big-block 5.9 became available, and in 1973, Quadra-Trac all-wheel drive was added together with V8. With the introduction of the smaller and more affordable Cherokee in 1975, the Wagoneer line became more luxurious, and the V6 engines and manual transmission were dropped.

This 1979 Jeep Wagoneer was first registered in Finland on December 7, 1979, to Aini-Liisa Finne in Vaasa, Osthrobotnia. The first owner’s registration certificate, original owner’s manual, and warranty & service booklet are still available.

A-L Finne kept the car until 1996. The next two owners also kept the car for a long time: the 2nd owner 1996-2003 and the 3rd owner 2003-2023. There was one owner in between, until I acquired the car from my client in early 2026.

The car was comprehensively serviced by a Jeep expert in February 2026:

The carburetor has been disassembled and overhauled with a new repair kit and adjusted. The spark plugs and ignition control unit have been renewed. The engine oils and filter have been changed and the transmission oils and coolants have been checked. The driver’s seat frame has been restored.

The car runs and drives excellently and is really pleasant to drive. The V8’s torque and sound provide a great driving experience.
